Advanced ID Detection also received an invitation to both speak and exhibit at the Information Management Institutes’ 8th Annual Security Printing Conference to be held November 16-18 in Hollywood, FL (http://imi.maine.com/security11.html) where we will be discussing the topic “Latest Advances in Fake IDs and How to Catch Them” with particular focus on the flood of fraudulent IDs from China such as those from ID Chief. Check out the complete description in our press release.

Events This Fall we were at number of trade events. On Monday, September 26, our law enforcement division participated in the First Annual Public Safety Trade Show presented by the New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police to be held at the Expo Center of the Radisson Hotel (Downtown Manchester), 700 Elm Street, Manchester NH (www.radisson.com/manchesternh). Full details can be found at http://www.nhchiefsofpolice.com/2011%20Trade%20Show.htm. Our AIDD-150 scanner can be mounted into a police cruiser console for use with existing laptops. Law enforcement queries may be directed to Chris Arnold (774-306-1025, chrisa@advancediddetection.com). This year’s MassPack trade show (sponsored by the Massachusetts Package Store Association, http://www.masspack.org/) will be held at the Best Western/Royal Plaza Convention Center (Route 20), Marlboro, MA on Wednesday, Oct. 12 from Noon to 4. Visit http://www.masspack.org/MassPack-Retailer%20Brochure%202011.pdf for full details. Please stop by Booth 105 and say hello and meet some of our new staff. (right next to the Mass Package Store Association booth at 103/104 to the left as you enter the hall). At the show, you can see our Tag-A-Keg application. For those stores offering kegs for sale, you know how time consuming it is to fill out by hand the required Tag-A-Keg form with the buyer’s information. We offer an electronic version of the Tag-A-Keg form that you can auto-populate with the driver’s license information, with the ability to fill out the rest of the information on the screen. Press print and you have an instant copy of the form ready for signing in a fraction of the time spent previously.
Advanced ID Detection moved into new offices in Medway, MA esrly this year which will allow expanded areas for meetings, product demonstrations, training classes, system assembly and R&D. Our new address is 23 Jayar Road, Medway, MA 02053 (with lots of parking too). Jayar Road is at the end of Industrial Park Rd which is off Route 109 near the Medway-Millis line. From the west, take the Route 109 (east) exit off I-495 and if coming from the east, take the exit for Route 109 (west) off I-95/Route 128. You can continue to use our previous (3 Ridge Road) address as well. Our 800 number is still the best way to reach us but we do have a local land line as well at 508-321-1671.
Access control area for large facilities (e.g. nuclear plants, office buildings) is another area where ID checking is important Look for us next at the ASIS New England Security Expo (http://www.asis-boston.org/expo/) on Wednesday, April 27 at the Holiday Inn in Boxborough, MA.
Advanced ID Detection had a busy booth at the recent New England Food Show (www.nefsexpo.com) at the Boston Convention and Expo Center (3/20-3/22) sponsored by the Massachusetts Restaurant Association (MRA). We introduced our new camera based facial comparison capability as well as demonstrated a new compact portable Fraud-Scan system (integrated i5 processor, touch screen, scanner package). At the show, we met lots of restaurant and bar owners who had never seen this technology before (from as far away as Indiana!). Our booth neighbors from Hospitality Mutual Insurance Company (www.hmic.com) offer substantial discounted coverage on liquor liability insurance to users of the Visual-AIDD product (contact Sandra Haley at 877-366-1140 for a quote.) Following the Food Show, we exhibited at the Mass Chiefs of Police Expo at the Royal Plaza in Westboro, MA. Amid all the police cars, guns, traffic cones, radios, etc., a new way of checking IDs stood out. We showed a complete system (laptop, scanner, camera, battery power) in a ruggedized case that can be taken into the field or used in the booking room; the North Andover (MA) Police Department, under Chief Rick Stanley, is the first Massachusetts community to utilize the system. The Newport (RI) Police Department has also taken delivery of one of these ruggedized systems for use in underage enforcement in that popular coastal Rhode Island tourist destination. The Hospitality Mutual Insurance Company Next to us at the show were our good friends from Hospitality Mutual Insurance Company (www.hmic.com) who offer some great discounts on liquor liability insurance to establishments suing the Visual-AIDD system. Going with them can result in a substantial cost reduction for buying the Visual-AIDD system and updates. This discount applies every year and could pay for the Visual AIDD system in a short time in many cases. Contact Sandra Haley at 877-366-1140 for details and a quote. They also shared our booth at the New England Food Show. If you are an establishment in Massachusetts that serves alcohol, check out the liability coverage you can get at Hospitality Mutual ( www.HMIC.com).
ID News New High Tech Fake IDs from China Are Caught by Advanced ID Detection! Fake IDs from ID Chief have been showing up in greater numbers in the Boston area and elsewhere. Be on the lookout for these high quality fake IDs from China. We were pleased to see a mention of these fakes in the most recent issue of the Massachusetts Package Store Association newsletter and the fact that our Visual-AIDD system can catch them.
In fact, we have examined a number of these high tech IDs and have even further improved our detection capability in recent releases for these specific types of fakes. Just recently, we had a call from a new customer who said they were seeing a lot of Pennsylvania licenses that he thought were real and had what looked like good UV and hologram features but were getting rejected by the Visual-AIDD system. It turns out that they WERE “chief” fakes that would have been accepted otherwise! Homeland Security is getting concerned about these fakes – it appears that, aside from US college students, they get many web hits and orders from outside the US.
The very first ID presented at one of our new customers recently was a Maryland “chief” ID as admitted by the chagrined student. Expect to see new fake variants for New Jersey in the near future – “New Jersey is now live! Full holograms and UV and it scans! This has been months in the making! Now it can be yours.” – ID Chief website. These high qualtity fake IDs are getting a bit more press lately and are worrying both law enforcement an establishment owners since they are so hard to detect. Check out the news articles below. Read more in our press section about these new IDs and how they don't get by Advanced ID Detection:

Fake driver's licenses tougher and tougher to ID (by Jason Nark, Philadelphia Daily News, March14, 2011) Colonie college students accused of fake ID scheme
California
Oct 2010: New California licenses are now being issued. Details, including pictures of the new licenses and IDs can be found at http://www.dmv.ca.gov/dl/new_dl_id.htm. One easily identifiable feature of the new cards is the "micro-perforated" brown bear image on the right center of the card. Holding it up to the light you can see through the card. This is a similar feature to the state outline found on the new Massachusetts licenses and IDs. The Visual-AIDD system will cover this newly issued license in the near future. Here is how the California DMV describes some of the new security features.
"Information included on the new cards remains the same, but is presented in a new way that improves readability and ease of use. Some of the new features include a vertical layout for persons under 21; the cardholder's date of birth and signatures that can be felt by touch; images that can be seen only with the use of ultraviolet lights; a 2D bar code on the back of the card that replicates and verifies only the information on the front of the card (similar to the current magnetic stripe); and a laser perforation outline of the California Brown Bear, which can be seen from the front of the card when a flashlight is pressed against the back of the card."
Local News Clip Blanchard's of Allston, a leading Boston liquor retailer, in the hub of the area 's college club scene, pioneered the use of the AssureID technology used in Advanced ID Detection's Visual AIDD system. The store is known for their aggressive ID checking and even their "Wall of Shame". This clip shows use of the optional larger passport readers (which also can scan licenses!) in door checking customers on the weekend. They have found the technology to be reliable and effective at catching the many fake IDs presented there. The AIDD-150 reader can be found at all their register lanes and has proved a strong deterrent to fake ID use at their store. Visit their site at www.blanchards.net. | |
