We invite you to see what our customers say about using Advanced ID Detection!

Liquor Stores

Dewey Parsons, owner of Downtown Wine and Spirits  in Somerville, MA

that has scores of its young residents attending schools in the Boston area:

“I have had the misfortune of failing a sting operation that cost me not only thousands of dollars in fines and attorney fees, but also put my license in jeopardy. This was the case of a person using a friend’s “look alike” license. All of our employees are TIPS trained and usually diligent. Some of the new fake IDs are good enough to be accepted by police. If that person screws up after using a fake ID in your establishment, guess what? You are liable!

When I was approached by Advanced ID Detection, I saw immediately the advantages as they relate to underage drinking and as a first class concept to reduce it and protect me as well. Now, after installing Visual-AIDD, I’m able to ensure that all IDs presented and accepted from customers in my store are real. The enlargement feature (which takes the drivers license photo and displays it in large format on the monitor) ensures that the ID belongs to the same person presenting the ID at time of purchase.

After five months of operation with Visual-AIDD, I have confiscated over 60 fake IDs and turned away numerous suspected “borrowers”. I am constantly applauded by concerned parents, local law enforcement, and even members of MADD for using this preventive technology. I would not operate without it.

Walter Cronin, owner of The Wine Press in Brookline, MA

which is within five miles of more than 250,000 underage high school and college students:

“Stings are sometimes relentless. We’ve had police outside our store weekends checking every person coming out of the store. Good thing we were very strict. One store I know got nailed and closed down for ten days. That’s enough for a small store to go out of business. You’ve lost revenue and you need that revenue to pay your bills --- a real double whammy.

Carefully checking IDs is so fundamental to this business. It’s such a relief when you get a system like this that really works because, otherwise, you go to sleep sweating. There are lots of machines out there that are just lousy; the kids find out how to beat them. I know owners that told me they bought some machines and ended up throwing them away because they were useless. The Visual-AIDD System is different because it is so easy to operate but very sophisticated in its checking. Now it has changed everything in my store. Adopting this technology, in my opinion, is a no-brainer.

Visual-AIDD has also made it so much easier to orient and train new employees that work the register. It takes the burden off them on whether to accept an ID or not.

Anyone can afford the price of these if one looks at the long term benefits. We know that stings are not going away. Any smart owner is going to conclude that Visual-AIDD takes the weight off you quite a bit. It saves you sleep, and sleep is worth something!”

Andrew Morrison, owner of Liquors 44 in Hadley, Holyoke, and Northampton, MA:

“A lot of these kids are very computer-savvy and creative when it comes to creating fake IDs and it can be very difficult to tell with the naked eye what’s legitimate and what is not. I’m not sure if the new scanner and software has had an effect on my business, but it certainly has helped me sleep better at night knowing we’re doing everything in our power to stop people with fake IDs from buying at our stores.”

Gary Look, owner of Al’s Package Store, Edgartown, MA  (on Martha's Vineyard)

“Having been in the liquor store business since 1974, we’ve experienced a few things. About 20 years ago, somebody who passed a fake ID at our store was arrested and it resulted in our store being closed for seven days. You don’t ever forget something like that.”

“Advanced ID Detection’s scanner is the greatest thing since apple pie. I used to go home at night with an uneasy feeling and wonder if this was the night. With this scanner, I have 110 percent peace of mind.”

“The beauty of the machine is that you can scan in the ID then see it on a computer monitor at just about the same size as somebody’s face. It makes it a lot easier to tell that the person in front of you is the same one on the ID and not just a good resemblance.”

“Almost all of our staff have been with us for more than five years. One is an ex police sergeant and they’ve all been through TIPS training. Even with all that training, some of these IDs are so skillfully done, particularly in replicating the holograms, that you really cannot tell.  The Advanced ID Detection scanner is virtually foolproof.”

“From the middle of July to September 1st, we had between six to 10 arrests for people trying to pass fake IDs. That’s way down from previous years. The word got out quickly about us having a scanner. A lot of people see the sign on the door and walk away.”

Paul Moeller, owner of Fairgrounds Wine & Spirits, Danbury, CT:

“We have used the Advanced ID Detection scanner for two years now. Our previous system wasn’t terribly effective in keeping up with the latest advances in fake IDs. Since installing this system, we’ve caught twice as many fake IDs as before.”

“A  liquor license is the most valuable thing you have in this business. Without it, you’re out of business. The Advanced ID Detection scanner gives you the peace of mind that you’re doing everything in your power to protect your license.”

“We are very impressed with the ease of use of the Advanced ID Detection scanners. The system works flawlessly and the Advanced ID Detection staff provides great support.”

Chris Bossi, general manager at Huntington Wine & Spirits, Boston, MA

“We’ve had the Advanced ID Detection scanner for five months. Before that, our clerks checked IDs without the benefit of any machines. We made the investment in the scanner because we knew with the new wave of IDs coming in from China that we needed a more sophisticated way to check IDs. With the Advanced ID Detection scanner, we pretty much know if we scan an ID and it passes muster, we’re okay.”

“Prior to installing the Advanced ID Detection scanner, we had a policy if you gave us an out-of-state ID that we would need a second form of ID as before we would sell to you. Consequently, we lost some business because people didn’t have the backup ID, even though their state ID was legit. The Advanced ID Detection scanner has given us the confidence to accept out-of-state IDs without the backup and that’s been a nice boost to our business.”

“I’ve worked here for 18 years. We’ve always done our due diligence to check IDs, but you never felt 100 percent sure you didn’t sell to somebody underage with a fake ID. Maybe you were 75 percent sure you didn’t. With the Advanced ID Detection scanner, we’re about as close to 100 percent as you can be that if there’s a fake ID coming through that we’re catching it.”

Rob Tibor, store manager at Marty’s Big Buys, Allston MA:

“We’re in the heart of a college area, so we’ve always been fairly vigilant about carding people and staying on top of the latest trends in fake IDs. Every year, the fake IDs get more sophisticated. So we needed to follow suit. The Advanced ID Detection gives us the best chance to flag those IDs that might have gone through before we put in the system. “

What’s best about the scanner is that it’s super easy to use and the monthly upgrades take only seconds to install.”

Robert Kirsch, owner of Kirsch Liquors in Worcester MA:

The Visual-AIDD has certainly helped us. I have had probably 50 fake IDs that we caught using this system. And, importantly, the word starts getting around: don’t go into Kirsch Liquors because they’ve got this pretty fancy system. They don’t actually see the system because I have it behind the counter; but I do have the warning stickers on the outside door. It’s easy and user friendly. My cashiers took to it very quickly and they use it.”

Todd Greamo, owner of Mass Liquors in Worcester MA
which has a dozen colleges and universities within a 15 minute drive:

“We have the Visual-AIDD System on all three of our registers. This is the first ID software where I trust the software more than I do myself. I now have faith in our machines because they have proven that they work. It makes it easier to refuse the customer who presents a questionable ID --- I just tell them politely: ‘If my scanner won’t pass it, I cannot accept it’.

Before Visual-AIDD, I would never leave the store on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night --- not even for ten minutes! Now I’ll still be here but I’ll go grab dinner for an hour and a half because I know that my crew all know how to use the Visual-AIDD machine and how to double check a license. If it fails some of the checks of the ID, the machine summarizes its conclusion and makes the call for them. That’s awesome.”

George Haivanis, owner, Reservoir Wine & Spirits, Brighton, MA:

“We’re located right near Boston College. Some of these college students think it’s their mission to get fake IDs and try to purchase alcohol. The Advanced ID Detection scanner gives us an additional layer of insurance that anybody who buys here is of legal age.”

“Since we installed the Advanced ID Detection scanner we’ve had signage on the door stating that we scan IDs. That’s also been a great deterrent to people trying to buy here with fake IDs.”

“We’re very happy with our Advanced ID Detection scanner. You really can’t put a price tag on the peace of mind having this system in place gives you.

James Katz, general manager of Brookline Liquor Mart, Allston, MA:

“We installed Advanced ID Detection scanner about 18 months ago. Prior to that, we had a whole bunch of handheld machines that didn’t work that well.  The Advanced ID Detection machine worked properly and accurately from day one.”

“This store has been in my family for 75 years and we feel a certain responsibility to the greater community that we do our due diligence to make sure that everyone who purchases alcohol here is of age.  Sure, it’s a significant expense, but at the end of the day you feel good that you’re doing everything in your power to address this issue and being a responsible towards your community.”

Kevin Prosper, owner of Bridgewater Liquors in Bridgewater, MA:

“I am so glad I have the Advanced ID Detection Visual-AIDD System. It has made me sleep easier. This catches the hardest of the fake IDs; in fact, we have 23 fake IDs so far and its only been four months since we installed it. This is the best system on the market, no doubt.

Marvin Spence, owner of Spirit Haus, Amherst, MA:

“We love it! We’ve had our Advanced ID Detection scanner for a couple of years and we absolutely love it. It’s a beautiful machine.”

“We used another scanning system prior to Advanced ID Detection. The problem was they didn’t update their scanners. With Advanced ID Detection, they are sending us updates on a monthly basis. With some of the sophisticated ID makers that are out there, especially the ones that come from China, you need to be as current as possible and Advanced ID Detection’s system makes sure of that.”

“We’re part of a college town here in Amherst and we see IDs from multiple states and countries. With Advanced ID Detection, it’s much easier to detect the fakes. “

Corinne Zaczek, marketing director, Bauer Wine & Spirits, Boston, MA:

“We never had an ID scanning system before buying the Advanced ID Detection scanner. The more research we did on fake IDs and the level of sophistication of those IDs, we knew we needed some protection. The Advanced ID Detection scanner has been quite effective on several levels. First, it flagged IDs that might have passed through before. Second, its mere presence alone has been a deterrent. We’re right in the heart of a college area with BU, Northeastern and Berklee close by. Once word got out, the number of fake IDs being passed went down dramatically.”

“We accept out-of-state licenses but it’s something you do with a bit of hesitancy. With the Advanced ID Detection scanner, as long as those IDs are being run through the machine and people are making sure that the face on the monitor matches that making the purchase, we have no qualms about taking out-of-state ID."

“With the Advanced ID Detection scanner, our peace of mind about the people we card has improved 100 percent.”

Bimal Patel, owner, Macy’s Beachway Liquors, Weymouth, MA:

“We have had Advanced ID Detection’s scanner for about six months. We switched from the Sprint 2000, mainly because it was not catching fake IDs. Advanced ID Detection’s scanner gives me total peace of mind.”

“During the summer, we have a lot of tourists come through this area and we see a number of out-of-state IDs. The Advanced ID Detection scanner gives me the confidence to accept those IDs and feel pretty confident that they are legitimate.”

Lang Huyen, manager, Macy’s Wine & Spirits, West Roxbury MA:

“Prior to implementing the Advanced ID Detection scanner, we had another scanner that used a laser to check bar codes. It wasn’t terribly effective, largely because the company didn’t update the system regularly to reflect the latest trends in IDs. Advanced ID Detection does that monthly.”

“We have an older clientele, most over 35. Before, we’d perhaps take one fake ID per month. After installing the scanner, it was three or four per month.”

“The scanner is Windows-based and very user-friendly. Essentially, you scan an ID through and it either tells you yes or no. What is especially nice is that it keeps a log of the IDs we scan. A lot of times, people who have been carded before will try to come in when another person’s working and pass the ID. With the scanner, we know whether a fake ID has been attempted before.”

Jack Gadles, manager, Mill Pond Station, Wareham, MA:

“Before we implemented the Advanced ID Detection system, we used a scanner that was a bit defective because it wouldn’t scan out-of-state licenses or military IDs. With Advanced ID Detection’s scanner, we don’t have to ask those customers for a second form of ID.  That’s particularly helpful during tourist season.”

“Part of the problem with previous systems we used was that it was too cumbersome and some of our clerks didn’t always use the scanner. Advanced ID Detection’s scanner is so easy to use our staff have no qualms whatsoever about using it.”

“We require everybody who works here to be TIPS certified. Typically, that’s a three-hour class.  Advanced ID Detection does such a great job of training and explaining what it is you should be looking for in fake IDs, I’ve actually had TIPS instructors tell me it took about half the time to cover the material for our new staff members because of the training they already had.”

Mark Mulkerrin, general manager, Allston Beer & Wine, Allston, MA:

“We’re right down the street from Boston University, which has a huge international population. So, not only do we have a lot of customers who are around 21, but many are from other countries without in-state ID.  With our previous scanner, we had to require two forms of ID in addition to a passport. With the Advanced ID Detection scanner, we can take passports and out-of-state ID.”

“With our previous policy of requiring two forms of ID, I’m sure there were a number of customers who were legally of age but just didn’t have the second form of ID. We’re not losing that business with this scanner and doing a much better job of detecting fake IDs.”

“From a peace of mind stand point, on a scale of one to 10, I’d say switching from our previous scanner to Advanced ID Detection’s like going from a three to a nine. You’re always going worry about one slipping through the cracks, but I feel 1000 percent better using this machine.”

“We’ve had the Advanced ID Detection scanner for a month and a half and it’s dramatically reduced my workload because I don’t have to double check IDs for our clerks, who for the most part are between the ages of 21 and 25. It takes a lot of pressure off them and me.”

Beau Beecy, owner, Bourne Bridge Liquors, Buzzards Bay, MA:

“We installed our system about five months ago. We had been using another scanner but it didn’t do half the job the Advanced ID Detection scanner did. While there’s still a human element involved in carding people--you still have to make sure the face on the ID matches the face of the person buying liquor—you feel better about it because the scanner works so well. “

It’s become a fun thing for our employees to run an ID through the scanner.”

“My peace of mind that we’re not selling to people who are using fake IDs is about a 9.5 on a scale of 10. That .5 is because there’s still a human element involved—you still have to run the ID through the scanner. But, overall, it makes you far more comfortable when somebody hands you an out-of-state ID or military ID that you are serving a legal person.”

Debbie Card, manager, Bradley Liquors, Boston, MA (near Fenway Park):

“We’ve had the Advanced ID Detection scanner for a little over a month. It’s far superior to the scanner we previously used, which only scanned the back of the ID.”

“The Advanced ID Detection scanner is a good system so far. I like that even though we have only used it a short time that we’ve already received two upgrades. They really stay on top of the latest trends in fake IDs.”

Sharon Sorcenelli, owner, Cedarville Wine & Spirits, Plymouth, MA:

“Prior to installing the Advanced ID Detection scanner about a year ago, we manually inspected IDs. The scanner has been a night and day difference.”

“In this business, you always have a certain level of anxiety, especially since the human element is still involved—your clerks have to make sure that who is in the picture is the same person standing in front of you. The Advanced ID Detection scanner is about as close as you are going to get to being worry-free since you can at least rely on the fact that the ID that is presented is, in fact, a valid ID.

Megan Foley, owner, Corks Fine Wine & Liquors, Mansfield, MA:

“We installed Advanced ID Detection’s scanner in February 2011. We had never had an issue with stings or anything like that. We were using a basic scanner and the book of licenses the state gives you and it just didn’t feel like we were being thorough enough, especially since we’re in close proximity to the Comcast Center and not too far from Gillette Stadium. The scanner gives us peace of mind we didn’t have before.”

“All our staff have received TIPS training, but those classes do not always provide the information on the fake IDs that are out there. With the Advanced ID Detection scanner, it removes the guesswork for our cashiers. If there’s even the slightest doubt about somebody, even if their actual age is 42, they run the ID through the scanner.”

We’ve gotten to the point where we really don’t get that many people trying to pass fake IDs. Is that entirely because of Advanced ID Detection’s scanner? Probably. But to have that kind of peace of mind in this business is priceless.

Wayne Smith, manager, Dub’s Liquors and Fine Wines, Mansfield, MA:

“We have had our scanner for about a year. We had never had any issues prior to that, but with all the reports about the more sophisticated fake IDs out there, we decided to be proactive and install the Advanced ID Detection scanner.”

“We are located in fairly close proximity to Wheaton College and the Comcast Center. That means a lot of young people and out-of-state licenses. The Advanced ID Detection scanner gives us an added layer of protection.”

“The first week we installed the system, we caught a few people with fake IDs. The word got out pretty quickly and we haven’t received too many since.”

Gary Park, owner, Gary’s Liquors, Chestnut Hill, MA:

“We’ve had the Advanced ID Detection scanner for eight months. It’s far superior to the scanner we were using, which only scanned the bar code and the company never upgraded the system. Advanced ID Detection’s scanner, with its monthly updates, just blows our old system away.”

“We’re located near a few colleges, Pine Manor and Mount Ida. So making sure that the IDs are legit and the people presenting the IDs are the same as the people in the picture is critical. On a scale of one to ten, the Advanced ID Detection scanner gives me an 11 when it comes to peace of mind.”

“We previously did not take out of state IDs and customers would have to present backup info with picture ID. Not everybody always has a second photo ID. So, it was costing us a decent amount of business from people who were probably of legal age but did not have back up. With this scanner, I have the confidence in the product to accept out-of-state IDs without backup.”

“This is by far the best tool we have in the store. I’ve told other liquor store owners they are insane if they do not get the Advanced ID Detection Scanner.”

Joe Camm, general manager, Gordon’s Fine Wine & Liquors, Waltham & Watertown, MA:

“We installed Advanced ID Detection scanners in both of our Waltham locations and our Watertown store at the end of 2010. Prior to that, we’d used a free-standing card and then a POS scanner. We weren’t really satisfied with either. The POS could only be used for a few states and we did not get regular updates. Having two colleges fairly close by to two of our stores, we felt we needed a more effective scanner. Advanced ID Detection was it.

“Where the Advanced ID Detection scanner has come in really handy is at the beginning of the semester in the fall and winters. That’s when we typically get a slew of fake IDs. The power of Advanced ID Detection’s scanner is that once you start scanning and catch some fake IDs, word gets around fast.”

“The city of Waltham is very proactive when it comes to holding liquor stores, bars and restaurants accountable with its Responsible Retailers program. And we thought we were doing a pretty good job watching for fake IDs. When Ted came in to install the scanner, it was a real eye opener at the level of sophistication out there for fake IDs, especially the ones from ID Chief. Advanced ID Detection was completely worth the investment.”

“When it comes to peace of mind, on a scale of one to 10, I’d have to say it’s a 10 since getting the Advanced ID Detection scanner. With three locations, we take on quite a bit of risk with every person we serve. The scanner gives us quite a bit more confidence that we’re only accepting legitimate IDs.”

Patrick Sorel, owner, Hank’s Liquors, Webster, MA:

“We installed the Advanced ID Detection scanner about a year ago. Being in a college town (Dudley College), about 15 percent of our customers are college age. Many of them are from other states. We previously had another scanner but Advanced ID Detection’s is much easier to use.”

“When Advanced ID Detection came out, they showed us a number of the fake IDs that are being used nowadays. It’s amazing how good these IDs are. You certainly couldn’t tell by looking at them, but the scanner picks it right up. Let me tell you, I would not want to be in business without the Advanced ID Detection scanner.

“Prior to getting the scanner, we would not take out-of-state licenses without a backup. That probably cost us some business. With the scanner, we take out-of-state licenses without hesitation, as long as they pass through the scanner.”

Peter Balboni, owner, Pioppi’s Liquors, Plymouth, MA:

“We installed Advanced ID Detection Scanner two years ago. Prior to that, we used a manual scanner that just read the bar code. This is far superior to that.”

“In addition to our liquor store, we also do catering and party rentals. We bring our scanner to catered events as an added security measure so we’re only serving people with valid IDs.”

“Prior to having the scanner installed, we would only serve people with Massachusetts IDs. In a tourist town like Plymouth, that was costing us business. With the scanner, we take out-of-state IDs and we have the added security of a scanner that ensures that as long as we run the ID and the face and photo match, we’ve done our job.”

Nathan Day, manager, R&P Liquors, Amherst, MA:

“We’ve had the Advanced ID Detection scanner for about four months. We’re a stone’s throw from several colleges and the scanner is a great insurance policy to make sure the IDs our customers present are genuine.”

“We’ve done a lot of training for our employees regarding fake IDs. Usually, when somebody is trying to pass off a fake ID, you’ve got a pretty good idea. That’s what makes the scanner so great is that it’s quite easy to confirm that. Our staff loves to use the scanner because it takes away a lot of the guess work on their part. In terms of new hires, it gives them a better way to look at IDs.”

“The Advanced ID Detection scanner also makes it much easier to accept out-of-state licenses because as long as you can match the face on the computer screen to the customer, you know you’ve done your job.”

Maria Monteiro, owner, Stephen’s Liquor Mart, Waltham, MA:

“We installed the Advanced ID Detection scanner about six months ago.  We had another system previously but this is much better because you can see the image of the person on the computer screen and it’s a lot easier to tell if they are the same person.”

What I like best about Advanced ID Detection are the monthly upgrades. This way you know you are current with the latest fake IDs that are out there….Having the Advanced ID Detection scanner gives me more confidence that the people we are serving are of age.”

Mark Bajek, owner, Winn Liquors, Springfield, MA:

“We’d never had any issues with ABCC but I did a little research on fake IDs. We were using a scanner but I’m guessing there were probably some fake IDs that were going undetected. As a liquor store within eye shot of a college [Western New England University] and another one down the street [Springfield College] we needed a higher level of protection. Advanced ID Detection’s scanner has given us that.”

“When kids came back for the fall semester, we caught a number of fake IDs with the scanner but word got out shortly after that.”

The machine is very easy to operate and as long as our clerks are checking to make sure that the face of the customer and the face on the monitor are the same, we have as close to 100 percent peace of mind that we are selling to people old enough to buy.”

Restaurants / Bars / Clubs

Blake Bryan, manager of Paddy’s Irish Pub, Springfield, MA:

“Our bar is located across the street from Western New England College and within two miles of Springfield College. I’d say that on the weekend, between Thursday through Sunday, 70 percent of our business is under the age of 30. The Advanced ID Detection scanner is a necessity in making sure that everyone we serve is of legal age.”

“We’ve used other scanners before, but they were not reliable. The first week after we installed the Advanced ID Detection scanner we confiscated 15 fake IDs. After that, the word got out and the number of people trying to pass fake IDs has decreased dramatically.”

“The ABCC was recently visiting local establishments. Before we had the scanner, I would have been walking around the pub and carding people after they had been carded at the door. With the Advanced ID Detection scanner, I didn’t bother rechecking IDs because I know how good the machine is.”

Steve Newman, owner, Punter’s Pub, Boston, MA:

“Before we got our Advanced ID Detection scanner, we didn’t know anything about ID Chief or some of these other places where kids were getting their fake IDs. So, in addition to receiving a scanner that works, we also got an education.”

“So far, the scanner has been very easy to use and we’ve been detecting about one fake ID per night. What’s been a bit more revealing is that just having the machine at the door or behind the bar has been a deterrent as we’ve seen more than a few take a look at the scanner and turn around.”

Jasmine Godek, manager at the Seafood Shanty, Edgartown, MA on Martha’s Vineyard

“The Seafood Shanty is a vacation spot. So, we get a lot younger people, many of whom are from other states and other countries,” said Jasmine Godek, a manager at Seafood Shanty. “We haven’t really had any problems with underage drinking, but with Advanced ID Detection’s system in place, there’s a lot less stress on our bartenders and door people who have the responsibility of carding people.  Essentially, we don’t worry about losing our liquor license anymore.”

Vincent Muftacchio, manager of Cheng-Du Restaurant, Westborough, MA:

“Before having the Advanced ID Detection Scanner installed, we inspected IDs manually. There were a few sting operations in town and we always passed but you were never really 100 percent sure the IDs we took were legit. With the Advanced ID Detection scanner we are very confident that everyone we card is who they say they are.”

Before we had the scanner, we didn’t take out-of-state licenses. Now, we are so confident in the scanner, we take them.”

Ed Stewart, owner of The Charlie Horse  West Bridgewater, MA:

“We’ve always had a strict policy regarding fake IDs. Every staff member at the Charlie Horse has to pass a test before we allow them to work the door and card people. We even instituted a reward policy for our staff -- $100 for catching a fake ID. Since installing our system in 2010, the Advanced ID Detection scanner has been an extremely effective tool for flagging fake IDs. Our employees love it because it makes their job that much easier and the reward that much easier to get.”

“In this business, you really can’t rely strictly on a machine to prevent the passing of fake IDs. That said, the Advanced ID Detection scanner is positive tool that makes it much easier to detect fake IDs.”

Advanced ID Detection has been great to work with. They are very knowledgeable and the monthly updates are incredibly easy to install.  Advanced ID Detection is very proactive in staying on top of the latest trends in fake IDs.”

Jeff Staples, manager, The Spoke, Amherst, MA:

“We’ve had the Advanced ID Detection scanner for about two months. We had used the black light scanner before and it was okay but Advanced ID Detection’s scanner is far superior.”

“We’re in a college town and about 50 percent of our customers are college-age and a good percentage of those people are from another state or country. Before we got the Advanced ID Detection’s scanner, we would not take out-of-state IDs. That cost us a lot of business. We now take out-of-state ID with a certain degree of comfort because we know if it passes through the scanner and the face on the computer screen matches the customer, it’s a legit ID.”

Markets

John McMahon, customer service manager at Atkins Farms in Amherst, MA:

The five colleges in the area--UMass, Amherst, Mount Holyoke, Smith and Hampshire—literally draw students from all over. That means we not only see IDs from other states but from other countries. The AIDD-150 Reader relieves the pressure of wondering if out-of-state IDs are valid."

Jamie, manager at the Our Market, Oak Bluffs MA on Martha’s Vineyard

“Since installing the Advanced ID Detection scanner in May, we’ve probably flagged twice as many fake IDs as we typically do.  The funny thing is about 95 percent of the kids who pass the fake IDs are so confident in these phony IDs that they actually wait until the police get here to try and get their IDs back. Of course, when the police cross-reference their records, they wish they hadn’t.”

Tom Saidnawey, Owner, Pemberton Farms, Cambridge, MA:

“We recently moved our liquor license to our larger Pemberton Farms location. That increased our exposure to the potential of fake IDs being passed and somehow getting by one of our staff. Installing the Advanced ID Detection scanner took the guesswork out of carding people who look under 30.”

“The Cambridge Prevention Coalition works with local businesses on various issues surrounding the serving of alcohol. They recommended the Advanced ID Detection scanner and it’s been a great investment on our part. It takes the guesswork out of serving someone alcohol—its’ either yes or no.”

“Perhaps the best thing about the Advanced ID Detection scanner is that it takes the pressure off our staff, some of whom are fairly young themselves. With the scanner, if there’s any question at all, they run the ID through the scanner and we know right away whether it’s good or bad.”

Gordon's Fine Wines and Liquors, in Waltham MA, has had the Advanced ID Detection technology for validating IDs presented at their Waltham retail locations since January, 2010.  Gordon's has been in business for over 75 years and is setting the standard in reliable ID verification in their stores.  Owner Rick Gordon has been very enthused about the Visual AIDD system and expects it to help curb underage attempts at his stores from local college students in the Waltham area.  You can visit their website at www.gordonswine.com.

Mass. Liquors, located in Worcester, MA, installed the Visual AIDD system at all their POS registers in January 2010.  Owner Todd Greamo is very committed to ID verification at his store.  His reaction to the Visual AIDD system?  "This is the system I have been looking for. It actually detects false IDs. When can you install them?"   This store exemplifies a liquor store with service, selection, and a serious commitment to deterring underage drinking. Visit their website at www.massliquor.com.

Reservoir Wine & Spirits, located on Beacon Street in Brighton, MA, has joined with Advanced ID Detection and recently had a dedicated computer with ID reader and Visual AIDD software installed. Owner George Halvanis knows the importance of having the best ID detection technology is not a "should" but a "must" for his business. His location is in the heart of one of the biggest college areas in the country. The majority of his customers are of age but knowing the availabilty and the quality of the fake IDs put there, Mr. Halvanis wanted the extra security of having the Advanced ID Detection System to combat underage drinkers from purchasing spirits at his store. Visit their website at www.reservoirwines.com.

Wollaston Wine & Spirits located in Quincy, MA. also implemented  the Visual AIID system. George Halvanis, owner of both Reservoir Wine & Spirits and Wollaston Wine & Spirits, proactively installed the system after seeing the capabilities of this system to deter underage drinkers from purchasing from him at his Brighton location. Although the Quincy store is not in a busy college area, this store has a huge selection of wines & spirits and has a large sales volume in the Quincy area. The risk for selling to underage buyers may be somewhat lower but George says "It only takes one person and its not worth the risk. This is my livelihood and I want to have the best technology available."  Vist their website at www.wollastonwines.com.
